Setting Up Email Accounts in Netscape

Welcome to our tutorial for setting up email accounts in Netscape Navigator.
Before we begin, please make sure that you have already created your email account in your main control panel. For help on creating email accounts, please go here.

1. Start off by launching Netscape. Select the profile you would like your email address to be tied in with, and then "Start Communicator".

2. When the browser has launched, click on "edit" (on the top bar) and on the dropdown menu, select "preferences".

The Preferences dialog box should popup.

3. In the Category section (to the left), double-click on "Mail & Newsgroups". The Menu will expand and list the sub-categories. Start off by clicking on "Identity"

The first field requests your name. Enter the name that you wish to be displayed in the From: field of your outgoing emails (as shown above).

In the email address field, enter your email address (as shown above).

Once entered, click on the "Mail Servers" sub-category.

4. This section requires you to configure your incoming & outgoing mail servers.
Start off by clicking the "Add..." button. The outgoing mail server dialog box should appear.

Enter the following details:

Server Name: mail.yourdomain.com
Server Type:  POP3 Server
User Name:    username@yourdomain.com

NOTE: Substitute yourdomain.com with your domain name.

Check the "remember password" box if you would like to skip having to enter your password every time you wish to view your email.

Before clicking OK, please click on the "POP" tab, and make sure that the "leave messages on server" box is unchecked. Leaving this box checked will only tie up your storage space and require you to manually delete each email from the server at a later time.

Continue by clicking "OK"

5. You will have returned to the Mail Servers area with your Incoming Mail Servers configured. Now you must configure your outgoing mail servers.

Enter the following information:

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:      mail.yourdomain.com
Outgoing mail server user name: username@yourdomain.com

Remember to substitute yourdomain.com with your domain name.
The dialog box should look as follows:

Complete the setup by clicking OK

Congratulations! Your account should now be successfully setup and ready to send/receive email in Netscape. We suggest you test it out just to confirm that it does work correctly.
